The short version

Who we are

Cove Client ("Cove", "we", "us") is a free launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition, made by an independent developer in England. This policy covers the Cove app and this website, coveclient.com. If you have a question about it, email support@coveclient.com.

What the Cove app keeps on your computer

Cove stores everything it needs in its own folder on your PC (%APPDATA%\.cove). None of it is sent to us.

You can remove an account at any time in Cove, which deletes its saved tokens. To remove everything, uninstall Cove and delete the .cove folder.

Signing in with Microsoft

You sign in on Microsoft's own sign-in page, in your normal web browser. Cove never sees or stores your Microsoft password. After you sign in, Microsoft sends Cove a sign-in token, which Cove exchanges with Xbox Live and Minecraft's services to check that you own Minecraft: Java Edition and to get your username, player ID and skin. This is the same process every Minecraft launcher uses. Microsoft handles that information under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Services Cove connects to

To update itself, sign you in, set up the game and find content for it, the Cove app connects directly to these services. Cove doesn't send any of them extra tracking information.

Like any website you visit, these services can see your IP address and what was requested, and they handle that under their own privacy policies. Once Minecraft is running, the game itself connects to Mojang and Microsoft, and to any servers you join, just as it does from the official launcher.

What we don't do

This website

coveclient.com doesn't use cookies, analytics, trackers or embedded content from other sites. It's hosted on Cloudflare, and Cove's installer and updates are downloaded from download.coveclient.com, which runs on Cloudflare too. Cloudflare may log visitors' IP addresses to run and secure its service, as described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Cloudflare is an American company and may process this outside the UK, under its own data protection terms.

If you email us

If you contact us, we'll receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering your message. We keep it only as long as we need to, and we'll delete it if you ask.

Children

Cove doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. Minecraft accounts for players under 18 are managed by Microsoft under its own family and child account rules.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Because Cove keeps your information on your own computer and not on our side, the only thing we'd usually hold is an email you've sent us. To make a request, email support@coveclient.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If Cove changes in a way that affects your information, for example by adding online features or cosmetics, we'll update this policy before that change goes live and change the date at the top of this page.
